It may be hard to believe at the moment, but warm weather is just a few days away for Foothills County.
Much of Southern Alberta was hit with another dump of heavy snow this week, but a low-pressure system is on the way to make it feel like spring again.
The sun will be shining in a clear sky as soon as Friday, but the warmth will take a little longer to make its presence known.
"Our average for this time of year, being April, our normal highs are about nine degrees," explains Environment Canada meteorologist Alysa Pederson. "On Friday, we'll still be a bit below that. Of course, a lot of the Sun's energy that we're going to be getting by Friday is going to go into melting the snow that has just fallen. But then by Saturday and Sunday, when most of that snow has probably melted, we're going to see those temperatures climb up again into the mid-teens."
That high-pressure system is expected to peak on Monday.
As good as it will feel to see that fresh layer of snow start to melt away, Pederson urges people not to get ahead of themselves.
"Everyone's really excited for spring to start, it feels good, it's sunny outside, but the snow can still cause pretty significant issues on highways. So if anyone is headed into the mountains or into BC, going south or west this weekend, the conditions are still expected to be pretty wintery, especially on those highways in those passes going into BC. If you're travelling, make sure to still bring a snow brush and pack for winter conditions."
