It’s day 13 of the federal election campaign, and all the major parties have officially announced their candidates for the Bow River riding.

The Conservative Party of Canada is running Vulcan County farmer David Bexte.

Bexte won the Conservative nomination earlier this year, defeating three other candidates in the race.

This is not Bexte’s first time running for office. He previously sought a seat on Vulcan County Council but lost.

The New Democratic Party is running Calgary construction worker Louisa Gwin.

This is Gwin’s first time running for office, and she is a current resident of Chestermere.

Calen Whitworth was announced as the People’s Party of Canada candidate just days ago.

According to the People’s Party website, Whitworth stands for freedom, personal responsibility, and respect and fairness in Canada.

Accountant and financial planner Tom Lipp is running for the Christian Heritage Party (CHP).

This is Lipp’s third election in the Bow River, having been the CHP candidate since the 2019 election.

The Liberal Party of Canada announced that former Bassano town councillor Bentley Barnes will be their candidate.

Jason McKee is running for the Green Party in the riding. This will be the first time a Green candidate has run in Bow River since 2019.

Candidates in the riding must gather at least 100 signatures to make it onto the ballot.

Currently, only two candidates have met that number and are on the ballot: David Bexte and Louisa Gwin.

Candidates have until Monday, April 7, to submit their nomination signatures.

StrathmoreNow has reached out to Bexte, Barnes, McKee, Lipp, and Whitworth for comment.

We have already spoken with Gwin.

The federal election is set for April 28.
