A 20-year-old Winnipeg man is facing animal cruelty charges after mistreating dogs in his care.

Winnipeg police say they were called to the 300 block of Edmonton Street Friday afternoon after the man was spotted violently pulling on one of the dog's leashes as he walked them in the Central Park area.

The man was located leaving a nearby apartment complex and, after being uncooperative, was taken into custody.

The officers found the man's suite and located two dogs inside.

The dogs were seized by officers and turned over to Animal Services.

A 20-year-old man faces charges of animal cruelty and failure to comply with the conditions of a release order.

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code with the relevant condition not to possess animals.

Anyone wishing to report incidents of suspected mistreatment of animals can contact the Winnipeg Humane Society Animal Welfare Line or the Province of Manitoba Animal Care Line (Outside Winnipeg)

Winnipeggers can also contact the Winnipeg Police Service anonymously at Crime Stoppers (204-786-TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
