The Town of Claresholm will have a new summer market this summer.

It will be a weekly market happening every Tuesday over the summer, and according to the Engagement Coordinator with the Town, Megan McClung, they are calling it Tuesdays in the Park.

"It's a way we wanted to get more people into Claresholm and more people in our community supporting local," McClung explains. "So, we know this year, more than ever, that our tourism, I think, is going to be a little bit higher, just based off of what's happening in Canada and the States. And people are really on the wagon of, Let's support local, let's support Canadian products, let's support or own community. We thought, Well, this will be a great way to do it."

While there is already a Farmer's Market happening on Wednesday nights, this market will be different.

As part of Tuesdays in the Park, there will be a Kid's Market where young entrepreneurs can sell their wares, on top of some entertainment.

While adults have to pay $20 per week to have a table at the Tuesdays in the Park market and kids pay $5, this money will go towards keeping Claresholm Fair Days free for all to attend.

"We didn't want to ask for sponsorship from our businesses. We know how tight things are right now, and we heavily rely on them to be able to help us with Fair Days," McClung says. "But this year is just so tight, we don't want to rely on our small businesses to have to donate at all to these events."

Not only that, but this market will help to support service groups, such as the Lions Clubs, that are experiencing a bit of a slowdown in membership, by highlighting different service groups at these markets.

The groups will come up with activities for people to participate in at the market, such as an Ice Cream Social.

"Every Tuesday is going to be the place where you want to be. You're going to want to be in Claresholm on Tuesdays because it's going to be super fun!"

The market starts on May 20 and will be happening at Amundsen Park from 2 to 6 p.m. each Tuesday night until September.

Currently, there are already have about 26 people registered to be part of the market, and there will be people selling fresh bread, handmade beadwork, paintings, and more.

McClung says there is still room for more vendors at this market, as she believes they can fit about 70 vendors.

If anyone wants to be a vendor at the market, head over to the Town of Claresholm Facebook page, or simply contact the Town and ask for Megan McClung.
