Boissevain-Morton residents will have noticed the pink sheets in their mailboxes listing the 25 charitable organizations in this year's Donors Choice, where residents and businesses can make a financial contribution to a local charity or a larger organization either provincially for nationally.
Donors Choice committee Chair, Barry Lamb, says other than switching the typically yellow sheet to pink this year, there are not any changes to the list of participants.
"For donations, we are accepting contributions for 25 recipient groups on our list, which are the same groups as last year. The papers were sent to the post office in early April and will remain there throughout the month," shares Lamb. "We urge people to consider making a donation to help the organizations that use Donors Choice to further their ventures and activities throughout Manitoba."
Local charities make up about 3/4 of the list with close to 1/3 being a provincial agency such as the Cancer Society. And folks are welcome to donate to multiple charities if they'd like.
Last year Boissevain-Morton Donors Choice handed out just under $65,000 in total to the 25 recipients. This year, Lamb says they're hoping to bring in $60,000.
"We know that things are a bit tougher, and the world has definitely changed from one year ago, but we hope that people want to support those local organizations and have the resources to help out a little bit," he explains. "And then we'll see what happens. Come the end of April and into the summer months, we'll be tabulating the donations, but we're appreciative of whatever people can donate, and I know the local organizations and provincial groups are more than happy to make use of that funding."
