The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt are proud to announce that Dazza Mitchell has committed to the University of Dubuque and will continue his hockey and academic career at the NCAA DIV III Level as a member of the Spartans for the 2025-26 season.
Dazza was acquired as a 20-year-old by the Broncos prior to the 2025 trade deadline, where he culminated an incredibly accomplished SJHL career with a 9-5-1-2 record with a “dazzling” .932 SV% as a Bronco.
His green and gold tenure helped the Broncos secure a playoff spot. Unfortunately, Humboldt was eliminated in the first round to the Flin Flon Bombers, but not before two remarkable home-ice performances where Dazza made 119 combined saves and picked up back-to-back overtime wins, tying the series at two games apiece.
“Dazza was a key acquisition to our success in the 2nd half of the year. He’s a great goaltender and a true community ambassador. On the ice, he is such a competitor, always dialed into his game, a goalie that thrives under pressure and makes sure he is always ready to perform. Off the ice, he’s been loved in each community he’s been a part of. He always gives back his time to his fans and community members. He makes everyone fee like they’re a part of the team, and that’s why he’s been so highly regarded in both Weyburn and now Humboldt. We wish nothing but the best to Dazza and we know he will have lots of success in Dubuque,” said Head Coach and GM, Brayden Klimosko.
Dazza’s SJHL career was mainly as a member of the Weyburn Red Wings. The Regina, SK native started as a 17-year-old and spent 116 games with the Red Wings. Throughout his career, including the Broncos, he complied a 56-48-5-6 record and leading his teams to three straight playoff appearances.
He was a Goalie of the Year finalist following the 2023-24 season.
“I am very excited to continue pursuing my hockey dream at the University of Dubuque. Not only is it a beautiful campus, but the coaching staff have been over-the-top incredible and welcoming. I’m excited to move on, but also a little sad that I’m leaving the SJ. It was a magical 4 years that I will cherish and remember forever. From the incredible fans, coaching staffs, and organizations to all the friends I’ve made along the way, there are not enough words in the world to describe how much I loved and appreciated every moment, with every team, and every person. Thank you, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey,” said Dazza.
The University of Dubuque is located in Dubuque, Iowa and competes in the Northern College Hockey Association (NCHA) Conference of NCAA Division III.
