Emmerich Jacob Schweighardt
April 18, 1930 – April 6, 2025
Emmerich Jacob Schweighardt was born on April 18, 1930, as the fourth child in a family of nine to Frank and Theresa (née Wachtler) Schweighardt. He hailed from Aka, Hungary, where he received his education and was fluent in Hungarian and German, the primary language at home. At the age of fourteen, due to the passing of his father and the disappearance of his two older brothers during World War II, Emmerich assumed responsibility for the family farm. The Schweighardt family immigrated to Canada and settled in Muenster, Saskatchewan, on May 4, 1950, with support from the Zimmer family. Emmerich gradually acquired proficiency in English and secured employment as a barn hand at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Humboldt, SK. On July 7, 1962, he married Anne Weselowski, and they raised nine children—eight sons and one daughter. Throughout his career at the hospital, he transitioned to the boiler room and maintenance department, where he diligently served until his retirement in 1993, concluding a remarkable 43-year tenure.
