Elections Canada has released the list of confirmed candidates for the Airdrie–Cochrane riding in the upcoming federal election today.

  • Blake Richards, Conservative Party of Canada (incumbent)

  • Sarah Zagoda, New Democratic Party

  • Sean Secord, Liberal Party of Canada

  • David Sabine, Libertarian Party of Canada

  • Christopher Bell, Christian Heritage Party of Canada

The confirmed candidate list was issued today, following the close of nominations on Monday.

Richards, who has represented the area since 2008, filed his nomination papers in late March. He most recently served as the Conservative shadow minister for Veterans Affairs.

"It’s always humbling to put your name on the ballot," he told DiscoverAirdrie. "I’ve worked hard for the people of our area, and it’s always been an honour to represent our communities and our people within them."

Zagoda, a longtime Airdrie resident and school technologist, was confirmed as the NDP candidate last week. She previously ran in the 2021 federal election and has held various leadership roles within both the provincial and federal NDP.

"As a long-time resident of Airdrie and an advocate for collaboration and honesty in government, I am stepping forward to ensure that our voices are truly represented in Ottawa," she said in a campaign release.

Secord had previously confirmed his intention to run for the Liberals, and he now appears on the official Elections Canada list. In an earlier email to DiscoverAirdrie, he said he looked forward to connecting with voters across the riding to hear their concerns and share his priorities.

The Libertarian Party’s David Sabine, initially unlisted, has also been confirmed.  Christopher Bell, representing the Christian Heritage Party of Canada, rounds out the ballot.

The federal election takes place on Monday, April 28.
