The Portage Pitbulls Football Club is gearing up for another exciting season as registration numbers continue to rise. Luke Irwin, president of the club, shared that the football program is open to children aged 8 to 15, with players ranging from those born in 2010 to 2017 eligible to sign up.

Irwin expressed optimism about the upcoming season.

"We've had a great response so far. The numbers are looking good, and we are hoping to see a lot of returnees from last year, especially the younger players who had a great first experience with football."

Last year, the club saw success with two Crunchers teams—the youngest age group—and is hoping to build on that momentum. Irwin highlighted that the teams had a strong season, with many new players to the sport.

"We're aiming to roster a Bantam team this year, and so far, the numbers are strong. It's great to see new faces showing interest in the game."

In addition to growing the club's teams, the Portage Pitbulls are also looking for volunteers to help make the season a success. Irwin emphasized that parents don't need to not worry about having prior coaching experience.

"We have a lot of experienced coaches who can guide new volunteers. The more volunteers we have, the better the experience for the kids."

Registration for the 2025 season is open until the end of June, and those interested can sign up through the Portage Pitbulls' social media pages or visit footballmanitoba.com. Irwin encouraged players from surrounding areas, including Elm Creek, MacGregor, and Austin, to join the club, noting that the Pitbulls welcome players from across the region.

Irwin also highlighted some exciting opportunities the club had last year, including a special club night at a Winnipeg Blue Bombers game.

"Last year, the Crunchers teams got the chance to play a little exhibition game at the Bomber stadium, which was a thrilling experience for everyone involved."

Irwin encourages anyone interested in coaching or if you want to know more information about the club to reach out.
