The 2024 Miss Rodeo Airdrie, Kyla Lightfoot, has claimed her next crown, recently being named Miss Ponoka Stampede 2025.
On Monday, Lightfoot garnered the new role and is proud of it.
"The Ponoka Stampede is deeply rooted in tradition, and I valued that history of it. But what excites me most is that it continues to grow and evolve."
She went on to share what she had to do to become Miss Ponoka Stampede 2025.
"I had been studying months before the selection day. We started at 9 a.m. with a Facebook Live introduction, where we talked a little bit about ourselves, what the Ponoka Stampede means to us, and what we hope to accomplish with the role. After that, we had our horsemanship competition, then we had our interviews."
Lightfoot explained that it is amazing that the Ponoka Stampede can stay true to its heritage while continuing to push the sport of rodeo forward.
She went on to talk about how being Miss Rodeo Airdrie helped her prepare for this competition.
"Airdrie's competition was very extensive, and so it has helped me with the Ponoka Stampede competition."
Lightfoot also explained that the experience she gained representing Airdrie will also help her represent Ponoka to the best of her abilities.
"I'm just really looking forward to the next year, representing ponoka and also taking that title to Miss Rodeo Canada.
She concluded by thanking the Airdrie Pro Rodeo for everything they have helped teach her.
The next Airdrie Pro Rodeo is scheduled for June 27th to July 1st.
