Cooking fire damages Fort Garry home

A cooking fire late Wednesday afternoon caused significant damage to a Fort Garry home. 

Just before 6 p.m., fire crews were called to a single-family bungalow in the 800 block of Lyon Street near Oakenwald Avenue. 

When they arrived, they found smoke pouring from the home. They attacked the fire from inside the home and got it under control within 20 minutes. 

Everyone inside the home was able to evacuate before firefighters arrived. 

One person was assessed at the scene but did not require a trip to the hospital. 

Fire officials say the fire was accidental, caused by unattended cooking.
