A motor vehicle collision shut down all westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway through Banff National Park Thursday morning; however, according to Alberta 511, westbound traffic near Banff Avenue was moving through a single open lane as of 11:16 a.m. Delays are expected, and drivers are advised to use caution.

According to earlier updates from Alberta 511, the crash occurred near the water tower and roughly 400 metres east of the TransAlta power substation. Initial reports stated that both westbound lanes were fully blocked. Emergency crews responded, but no further details about the crash or possible injuries have been released.

In a statement posted shortly before 10 a.m., Banff National Park confirmed the closure and advised travellers to expect delays and plan accordingly.
