Gearge McDougall's "Ride of the Mustang" returns next week to raise funds for the Alberta Children's Hospital.
Over the 15 years of doing this event, around $1.1 million has been fundraised.
'Ride of the Mustang' is an annual fundraiser where teams of students gather in the gym and ride stationary bikes over three days. In 2011, a student from the high school was diagnosed with cancer, which inspired the very first event.
Kelsey Ahluwalia, a teacher at George McDougall, explained that all funds raised go towards cancer research.
"We start Tuesday, April 15, and we will bike until Thursday, April 17. This year, we've got 30 teams participating. There are about 300 students who are part of it, and I believe there are about 15 staff members that are part of our staff team."
Last year, $45,635 was raised during the ride. Ahluwalia also shared that if anyone would like to donate, please contact the school.
"Students have been fundraising money however they can; some do bottle drives, babysitting things like that."
Once again this year, the school will be hosting multiple events to keep the students and staff entertained while biking.
"We have Brandon Lorenzo coming again for an evening to come play music and interact with the students. We have a student band that is coming as well. Then, we're hosting a Just Dance Dance Party."
Back in 2014, the high school was awarded "The Spirit of Generosity Award for Philanthropic Group". They were also awarded the "Top School Fundraiser" award from the Alberta Children's Hospital in 2022.
She concluded by thanking everybody who has helped make this event possible again this year and those who have donated already.
