The Town of Okotoks is creating a new tourism strategy, and Okotoks residents can provide some input.

They are creating a new five-year Tourism Strategy and Action Plan, which will help guide how the Town manages and grows tourism sustainably, and they want residents to share their thoughts on what tourism means to them.

On top of boosting tourism in town, this plan will also explore how to boost the local economy, support small businesses, as well as celebrate what makes Okotoks a great place to visit and live.

"Tourism has the power to strengthen our local economy, create jobs and highlight what makes Okotoks such a special place," explained the Director of Community Growth and Identity for the Town of Okotoks, Jeff Greene, in a media release. "By building on our strengths and gathering fresh ideas from the community, we can develop a tourism strategy that benefits everyone."

The feedback residents provide will help shape a tourism strategy for the town that reflects the character of the Town of Okotoks and supports long-term community benefits.

Recently, there was a review of tourism in Okotoks has indicated there are local tourism highlights in town, including the walkability of downtown, the beautiful parks in town, the events around town, as well as the growing sports and culinary scenes.

Through that review, they also found some areas to improve, such as the visitor amenities and public spaces in town, especially in the downtown core, as well as creating unique tourism experiences throughout Okotoks, such as food tours, festivals, outdoor adventures, and sporting events, and encourage more collaboration between businesses and local organizations.

The Town will be holding engagement opportunities around town from April 14 to 17.
