A 31-year-old Airdrie resident and a Calgary man have been charged and remain in custody after two vehicles fled from police following a reported theft in Canmore and were later followed into Calgary, where both suspects were arrested.

According to RCMP, at approximately 11 p.m. on April 7, Canmore officers received a report of mischief and theft from a vehicle in an underground parking garage.

"RCMP investigated and later located a suspect vehicle, which fled from police," police said. "While attempting to locate and contain the first suspect vehicle, a second vehicle entered the search area and was identified as being associated to the first vehicle and initial incident."

Police said the second vehicle also fled and "intentionally crashed into a police car, disabling it."

Officers followed the vehicle into Calgary with assistance from Cochrane RCMP and the Calgary Police Service HAWCS helicopter.

"The vehicle was followed using the helicopter until the occupants were observed leaving the vehicle and subsequently taken into custody by CPS K9 units," RCMP said.
