On April 5, 2025, at approximately 1 a.m., Grande Prairie Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) stopped a vehicle in the downtown core for expired registration. Further investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in the drug trafficking trade. A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest resulted in the seizure of 215 grams of cocaine, 67 grams of crystal methamphetamine and $1800 in Canadian Currency.
Chad Michael Simonson (50), a resident of Grande Prairie, was charged with two counts of Possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000.
Simonson was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on April 28, 2025.
