Steinbach’s junior curlers closed out the 2024-25 season with strong performances at two major events in Winnipeg — the Curl Canada RockFest skills competition and the annual junior season wind-up bonspiel.

The Curl Canada RockFest Man-Sask event wrapped up Saturday after three days of competition. Nearly 100 U15 curlers from across the Prairies gathered for the individual skills challenge, and Steinbach had seven curlers qualify for the event.

One of the highlights came in the female division, where Ahinoam Ruka brought home the bronze medal.

Team Poirier earns silver at bonspiel

The previous weekend, Steinbach had three teams compete in the end-of-season bonspiel, also held in Winnipeg. Two teams competed in the U13 division and one in U15, facing off against strong opponents from across Manitoba.

Both Team Beaudry and Team Poirier finished round-robin play with 3-2 records in the U13 category.

Team Beaudry narrowly missed out on advancing to the medal round, losing a tie-breaker based on a draw to the button.

Team Poirier, however, found themselves in a strong tie-breaking position and advanced to the Gold/Silver final. After a competitive championship match, they secured the silver medal — a fitting reward for a season of hard work and teamwork.

The young curlers now look ahead to the off-season, already setting their sights on the next season’s challenges, knowing they’ve got what it takes to go far.
