Roadwork, pathway repairs and street sweeping are all underway as spring maintenance season ramps up across Airdrie and Rocky View County.
According to the City of Airdrie's website, repairs to a pedestrian bridge in Nose Creek Park are slated to begin today. While the work is underway, path access through the area will be closed until Sept. 1. Detours will be in place along the pathway system to route pedestrians around the work zone.
Elsewhere, intermittent lane closures are in effect along Range Road 291 until April 28 to accommodate subdivision construction activity.
Separate from these closures, the City of Airdrie has already kicked off parts of its annual spring clean-up program. The effort targets the winter sanding material and debris that collects on roadways, sidewalks and boulevards. Removing the material helps clear storm drains and protects local waterways, including Nose Creek, from contamination.
Residential street sweeping is scheduled to begin in late April, weather permitting, and will continue into early June. At least 48 hours in advance, large orange signs will be posted at subdivision entrances to notify residents of sweeping dates.
Each neighbourhood typically takes two days to complete. The city updates its street sweeping map daily—two zones at a time.
Drivers are asked to move vehicles off the street during sweeping. Vehicles left in place may be tagged and towed under the Streets bylaw. Alley parking is allowed between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. during scheduled sweeping—provided access to garages, driveways, and emergency routes remains open.
Street sweepers will work through the city in three phases: first, they will target arterial roads, medians, and boulevards, then collector and residential streets, and finally, paved alleys and green streets. Some arterial routes may be swept again during the summer and fall.
Residents can help by:
-
Removing ramps, sports equipment and signs from boulevards and gutters;
-
Keeping vegetation trimmed away from the curb; and
-
Refraining from sweeping private debris onto the street.
Sweeping begins this week in Rocky View County, starting with Balzac from April 15–18. Crews will move through rural and residential communities over the coming weeks.
The county’s tentative 2025 sweeping schedule (weather dependent) is as follows:
-
April 15–18: Balzac (rough sweep)
-
April 22–23: Sharp Hill
-
April 24–25: Conrich
