Saskatchewan recorded 570,000 calls in 2024 involving 911 phone operators, whether it be taking the call, dispatching the information, or working together to assist technicians across the province.

The professionals are being celebrated through Public Safety Telecommunicators Week April 13-19.

"Telecommunicators are essential in saving lives," Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod said. "They ensure that the information you provide during a 9-1-1 call is accurately relayed to the emergency personnel who are coming to your aid. We recognize and appreciate their vital role in keeping our citizens safe."

These workers devote their lives to serving the public, highly trained individuals who are located in Saskatchewan's three major cities (Regina, Saskatoon and near Prince Albert). Other notable telecommunicators to recognize this week include those involved with provincial monitoring and dispatching through the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency who works with provincial and municipal workers to support things like public safety, protection and enforcement.

According to the government release, Public Safety Telecommunicators week is observed annually during the second full week of April.
