“I’d like to see people get their dreams fulfilled, move on to the next step in their life in their perfect home.”

Betty Abbott, owner and broker at Abbott Realty, was born and raised in Maple Creek. Together with associate broker Kelsey Huery, this mother-daughter duo helps individuals and families make Maple Creek their home, too.

Huery knew from a young age that she wanted to work in real estate, and recalls watching her mother study for her real estate licensing many years ago.

“I actually probably annoyed her more than anything,” Huery laughs. “I was rather young. And she used to have lots of house drawings and things around the house. That was something that always kind of intrigued me. So I started studying the first day that I was able, to the day I turned 18.”

Abbott spent many years working in banking and retail, but wanted to have something to call her own. Then, one day, she saw a listing on a bulletin board about a broker who was looking to expand into her hometown of Maple Creek. So she got in contact, took her course, and became a licensed realtor. After working for that broker, Abbott branched out on her own in September of 2009 and created Abbott Realty. Her daughter joined soon after.

The value of working with a local family-run real estate team rather than a bigger corporate agency cannot be understated. While Abbott boasts two decades of experience, and Huery is not far behind at 13 years, they’ve both been in the local industry long enough to sell numerous properties multiple times.

“We know the homes. We know the area. We also know who the contractors are, the plumbers, the electricians. It’s the full service that we provide.”

Buying or selling a home is a very personal and life-changing experience, and Abbott Realty is ready to walk with clients through it all.

“These are big decisions,” Abbott shares. “For most buyers and sellers, it’s not just a house, but a home, and the community it’s in is as important if not more important, than the home. So helping them find the right home and community is rewarding.”

The diversity of the southwest Saskatchewan landscape means that there really is something for everyone, whether that be art, agriculture, lake life, finding a forever home, ranching, or retirement.

“Cypress Hills is a piece of history that's right in our backyard,” Abbott explains. “It offers a quiet getaway or an opportunity for a tourism venture. And there's so much to see and do within an hour's drive of Maple Creek and the park, so it's a nice central location.”

Properties range from rustic off-grid cabins to spacious year-round homes. Huery notes that whether buyers are looking for the quiet country life or the bustling downtown scene, both can be found within as little as a 15-minute drive.

When entering the market, common mistakes are overpaying and overpricing, which Huery and Abbott combat by providing both buyers and sellers with a comparative market analysis.

“The goal is homes that are priced and marketed well,” Abbott states. “Buyers are savvy shoppers- they’ve been comparing things online, and they know when something’s overpriced. They’ll just move on.”

Abbott Realty helps both buyers and sellers find that balance, negotiating a middle ground where both parties are happy with the final result.

Both Huery and Abbott agree that the goal of their company is to ensure that clients feel understood and confident in their real estate journey, while building lasting professional relationships and ensuring support not only during the transaction but later on. Clients can trust that this is a reliable partnership, and that the team is committed to finding exactly what you’re looking for.

“It’s always great to work with somebody once,” Abbott adds. “But it’s really great when they come back. The kind of repeat business and confidence in our work is very appreciated. I don’t take it for granted that people have chosen to work with us- I really appreciate it.”
