Two teens arrested in $27K drug bust
Two teenagers were arrested in Dauphin after a firearm threat led RCMP to seize over $27,000 worth of illegal drugs on Sunday. A 17-year-old from Ebb and Flow First Nation allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman before fleeing, while a 16-year-old from Dauphin was also taken into custody. Although drugs and cash were recovered, the firearm remains missing and the investigation is ongoing.

Therapy dogs bring joy and relief to Portage communities
Kristin Sapinski and her therapy dog Ferrari bring comfort to patients in Portage la Prairie through St. John Ambulance’s therapy dog program, offering emotional support in hospitals and care homes. Unlike service dogs, therapy dogs are trained to provide stress relief and companionship, with handlers and pets undergoing careful screening and training. The volunteer-based program is seeking more local teams, with an orientation session set for May 23 at the Portage library.

Portage Council considers street name to honour Gladys Cook
Portage la Prairie city council is considering naming a new street "Gladys Cook Way" in honor of the late Gladys Cook, a respected community advocate who worked on reconciliation, addiction recovery, and supporting Residential School survivors. The proposed street, located on the grounds of the former Gladys Cook Education Centre, aligns with the city’s commitment to reconciliation efforts.
