With warmer weather and strong drying conditions, the Humboldt Fire Department warns about the possibility of grass fires.

In a social media post, it says that the combination of dry grass, warmer temperatures and strong winds are the perfect mix for fast-moving wildfires this time of year. A spark from a cigarette, a fire pit or even a hot exhaust pipe can start a dangerous and uncontrollable blaze.

During these conditions, the Fire Department advises:

  • Don’t burn unless necessary

  • Avoid parking on dry grass

  • Properly dispose of cigarettes and matches

  • Be extra cautious on windy days.

Given the proper conditions, grassfires can spread quickly and burn hot. If you see a grass fire, report it immediately through 911.
