An online safety presentation will be held in Strathmore on May 1.

The event will be hosted by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) and the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.

The presentation will teach residents how to protect themselves and their children online.

Ann Horn, chair of the Strathmore Municipal Library, explains that parents don’t always know what their children see online.

"This is something that's happening that adults don't seem to realize what their kids are getting online and seeing, and I see more and more programs where they can lock what you can see online, but still predators have ways around that, and I think it's a really important program that adults can come out and listen to."

No registration is required to attend, and there is no set capacity for the event.

The presentation will also offer guidance to parents on how to have conversations with their children about online safety.
