Elections Canada is expecting a significant voter-turnout this federal election after a record-breaking number of people showed up to the polls on Friday.

Marie-France Kenny with Elections Canada says the first day of advanced polling saw two million Canadians line up. This is an increase of 36 per cent, or 1.2 million voters, from the last federal election. Kenny assures that if you still hope to cast your ballot early, there are several ways to do so.

“Today (Monday) is the last day for advanced polls, and people have until tomorrow (Tuesday) at six o’clock to vote by special ballot at their Elections Canada office, or to order a vote-by-mail kit.”

Kits received in Ottawa after April 28th will not be counted.

If you plan on voting in person Monday, Kenny says it’s best to show up before 4 o’clock, as she anticipates a swarm of people to follow suit after the workday is over. She expects the total number of Canadians that took advantage of the advanced polls will be released on Tuesday.

Anyone who didn’t cast an early vote will need to gather at their designated polling station on April 28th. All necessary information can be found at Elections.ca, including voter ID, poll locations, and the names of the federal candidates in each riding
