Much of Foothills County saw a late-season snowfall Monday night (April 21).
Approximately 10 centimetres of snow was recorded at the Pekisko weather station.
“It's not too uncommon of an event in terms of late-season snowfall,” said Justin Shelley, Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist. “It's a big swing from what we saw earlier in the month, but not uncommon for this time of year.”
In early April 2024, the Pekisko station recorded about 23 centimetres of snow, and at the end of April 2024, another event brought 20 centimetres of snow to the region.
Winter weather conditions are over for the week, with double-digit temperatures by mid-week.
“We're getting back into the low to mid-teens to round out the week, and by the weekend, we could be getting into high-teens for the daytime,” Shelley said.
The duration of the week is expected to be dry, but the weekend could bring rain showers and potentially flurries in the mountain regions.
“It's not looking as significant as this previous snowfall, but just something to keep an eye on as we head throughout the rest of the week,” Shelley said.
