Okotoks Fire & Rescue had their hands full over the Easter long weekend, responding to eight outdoor fires in and around Okotoks.
Of those eight, four were within town limits, and a few are under investigation.
One of them was set in a public washroom near the Laurie Boyd Bridge, and it's one of several currently under investigation.
"It was extinguished quite quickly, but there was significant damage to the outhouse. Our fire investigators are currently working with the RCMP and investigating some of these fires. Of the four in town, we're looking at the origin of several of them," said Deputy Fire Chief Dave Hodgins.
Another was set in a garbage can near the Okotoks Recreation Centre.
Grass fires from earlier in the month, including one in the river valley and another one near Crystal Ridge Drive, are still under investigation.
As for whether or not these recent fires look to be connected, Hodgins said that's yet to be determined.
"We are still too early into the investigation to say whether these are connected. We're working with the RCMP to come up with some more answers."
Luckily, fire crews have been quick to respond, and they've been able to make use of recent additions to their fleet.
"Crews were able to respond quickly. We got early notifications on those fires, and the crews were fortunately able to get there quickly and confine them, causing further damage," explained Hodgins.
After the recent snowfall and rain, he's hopeful that grass fires will be slower to spread.
