Another day, another hockey league that has wrapped up its season. The Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League (MMJHL) wrapped up the championship with a four-to-one series win by the St. Boniface Riels.
Portagers Carson Dubois and Alex van Deynze helped the squad to the win, with three and seven points in the championship respectively.
Dubois notes that he and the team were glad to wrap it up so quickly.
"I'm feeling good. It was an exciting weekend. We didn't quite get it done in the sweep, but we finally got it done there on Saturday, so it was nice to see it finally get done."
Dubois says that having his friend and teammate from his days with the PCI Trojans really helped him this season.
"It was nice to win it with another play from Portage in Alex van Deynze. He's a really good player, so it was nice to have a little bit of familiarity and have a familiar face on the team with you."
He notes that this season felt a little different from previous years, as he felt more comfortable at the level of play than before.
"I had a good year this year, started to really find my footing, become a little more confident in the league. I think just playing high school and having fun throughout minor hockey is kinda the same idea in this league. It's still competitive but not like a full-time job. So, it's nice to have fun and go out there and play hockey still."
Carson wasn't just resting on his laurels while he waited for games, however.
"I'm actually going to school at the University of Manitoba. I'm finishing up exams this week, and then I'll be back in Portage for the summer. So, hockey ended at kind of a perfect time, so just wrapping up school here."
