A man from Ile des Chenes is now a millionaire thanks to his winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket.
Richard Hall purchased his winning ticket through PlayNow. Hall says he received an email saying he had won a prize following the draw. But Hall did not check it right away.
"I thought it was probably another Free Play, so I didn't check it right away," he admits. "When I finally opened it, it had a strange screen I had never seen before."
Hall says there was a one with a bunch of zeroes and he questioned what had just happened. He then called Western Canada Lottery Corporation to confirm that the prize was real.
"It was real," he says. "I told my wife, 'You're not going to believe what's going on.'"
He then told his wife that he was a millionaire.
"She said, 'Oh get out of here,'" recalls Hall.
According to Hall, the win is sentimental, as PlayNow is something his father always played. The two would even play together.
"He always thought he'd win, and he passed away a few years back," recalls Hall.
Hall says he keeps thinking about what his father's reaction would be to learning of his son's winnings.
"It would have been over the top," he says.
Hall says his family is planning on taking a practical approach with the winnings, noting they will place plenty into savings and also invest some. However, they also hope to enjoy some of it.
"We are talking about building a pool for my grandkids and kids to enjoy," he says.
Hall purchased his winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket through PlayNow. He won his prize in the April 12 GOLD BALL draw with the selection: 30328941-01, a white ball.
