William Petryk says rural Saskatchewan is ready for change — and he believes the New Democrats are the only party ready to deliver it.
The federal NDP candidate for Battlefords–Lloydminster–Meadow Lake is running on a platform focused on healthcare access, affordable housing, and tackling the rising cost of living — issues he says are top of mind for voters across the region.
“There’s a real sense that people here feel left behind,” Petryk said in a recent interview. “We’ve seen hospital cuts, housing shortages, and grocery bills going through the roof. It’s just not sustainable.”
A chartered professional accountant by trade, Petryk brings financial experience and grassroots activism to the campaign trail. Originally from Ontario, he moved to Saskatchewan in 2011 and has worked as a Controller with L&M Wood Products in Glaslyn and as Financial Administrator for Bralin Technology Solutions in North Battleford. He’s also been active in community initiatives and local NDP riding associations.
“People deserve fair wages and a shot at a decent life,” he said. “That’s the kind of economy I want to help build — one that works for everyone.”
Petryk says his background in accounting gives him a practical lens on federal budgeting and economic policy, while his work in education and community organizing keeps him grounded in the daily struggles of residents.
“Being in the classroom and in the community, you see the real impact of decisions made in Ottawa. We need representatives who understand what people are going through — and who are willing to fight for them,” he said.
In addition to healthcare and affordability, Petryk is advocating for bold climate action, including investments in renewable energy, support for green jobs, and policies to reduce carbon emissions. He’s also calling for a universal pharmacare plan, better mental health services, and a crackdown on corporate price gouging.
“I want to build a government that serves its people — not ultra-wealthy corporations,” he said. “For too long, working Canadians have taken a backseat while corporate insiders take the wheel.”
Though the riding has been a Conservative stronghold for decades, Petryk says he’s encouraged by conversations at the door.
“There’s frustration with the status quo. People are open to new voices — especially when it comes to basic needs like healthcare and affordability,” he said. “It’s not just about politics — it’s about survival for many families.”
With advance voting underway and the federal election set for April 28th, Petryk says he’s ready to bring a people-first perspective to Ottawa.
“It’s time for a representative who puts people first,” he said. “That’s what this campaign is about.”
