After a long winter, opening day for La Broquerie Golf Course has arrived and General Manager Pat Gauthier is ready to welcome friends both old and new to the course.
"It's always exciting," Gauthier says with a big smile. "We've been ramping up all spring and getting ourselves ready. It's almost like a playoff game, we've got the jitters, we've been waiting for this day and it's finally here."
Gauthier says the course is in great shape heading into the 2025 season. "The course wintered really well considering the lack of snow that we had on the course. The green's are green, the fairways are looking good, everything is looking good. The new green that we've been working on for a year a half is fantastic and ready for a full year. Everything is looking great."
There's been a ton of work but into the golf course over the past few years and Gauthier says the new green is the most recent addition with more still to come. "I'm super excited, it's been a work in progress, we've been working hard and making sure it's ready to go. We have a new tee box that we've been working on throughout the fall and while it's not ready to go right now, but a few new tee boxes will be ready to go this year. We're always trying to improve, whether it's tee boxes or drainage, we're always doing what we can. No rest for the wicked here in La Broquerie."
From tournaments to season members to walk ins, Gauthier says all are welcome and they work hard to make sure there's a balance for all. "We try and keep it so that our members are happy, we know they want to golf, we want community people to be out there and then we love having tournaments, it's a great way to promote the course. New golfers come out and they want to come back with friends and family. It's a tricky balance but we work hard, we manage and we do our best to make everyone happy."
Beyond just the golf course, there's a lot going on like the restaurant, the driving range, mini golf and it's all opening today as well. "Everything is in full swing. The patio that seats about 100 people, that's open, it's enclosed so even on those super windy days, you can sit inside and look out at what's going on without your drinks flying off the table. We're looking forward to another great season and of course, the restaurant has all our poutines back, burgers and all the good stuff golfers love."
The most important part for Gauthier is that he and his staff pride themselves in having a family like atmosphere for everyone that comes to golf in La Broquerie. "Feeling like it's home, it's one of our top priorities. We greet everyone by name when they come to the counter, whether it's their first time visiting or they've been a member for 20 years, that's something we take pride in, customer service is number one. We believe in taking care of our golfers and our patrons. That's a key where all my staff is aware of that and we focus on it. It's all about the customer."
