Alberta Health Services (AHS) has confirmed another case of measles in the South Zone.
The case was in Taber, with potential exposures at the Taber Health Centre on April 16.
According to AHS, individuals who were at the centre's emergency department between midnight and 3:40 a.m. may have been exposed to measles.
Anyone who was potentially exposed who was born after 1970 or has received less than two measles vaccines is advised to monitor for symptoms and review their immunization records.
Measles symptoms include:
- Fever of 38.3° C or higher; and
- Cough, runny nose and/or red eyes; and
- A rash that appears 3 to 7 days after fever starts, usually beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down to the body and then to the arms and legs. The rash appears red and blotchy on lighter skin colours. On darker skin colours, it can appear purple or darker than the skin around it, or it might be hard to see.
Anyone who develops symptoms is advised to stay home and contact Health Link at 811.
As of 12 p.m. on April 24, there have been 129 confirmed cases of measles in Alberta, 16 of them being active.
More information on active AHS advisories can be seen on their website.
