Southwest gardeners, local plant enthusiasts, and more can tune in to a free-to-attend webinar coming up next week showcasing the benefits of including native plants in a garden and more.

The webinar is being held on Tuesday, April 29, over the noon hour as a part of the Prairie Conservation Action Plan's Native Prairie Speaker Series.

Gail Fennell, speaker for the webinar and former leader at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum's Nature Regina Garden, shared that even planting one keystone species, such as a sunflower, can positively impact a number of vital insects.

"It's always exciting when more people want to grow native plants and do something for the pollinators or the birds," she said. "It's going to be a lot of fun, and I'll be there to answer any questions."

Native plants in the southwest include crocuses, prairie smoke, violets, hairbells, asters, sage, blue grama grass, and much more.

Anyone looking to register for the webinar can head to www.pcap-sk.org.

Fennell added. "It's the perfect time right now, that snowy rain we got is exactly what these plants want to be outside in when they're starting."
