The Town of Okotoks is seeking input from residents on the design of a new accessible and inclusive playground at Howard Park.

Local parents and caregivers are invited to attend an interactive design workshop on May 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Okotoks Operations Centre to learn more about the project and provide their feedback.

“Community members will have an opportunity to view the town’s initial playground concept and help shape the final design,” said Rod March, parks manager for the Town of Okotoks. “We’re looking forward to hearing what matters most when it comes to creating spaces that are welcoming for everyone.”

Howard Park is a well-used community hub, located near the Viking Rentals Centre, the Foothills Composite High School, and a network of pathways in connection to the regional trail system.

The park features a ball diamond, an existing playground, and sports fields, with a new skatepark expected to open later this year.

The goal of the new accessible and inclusive playground is to continue enhancing Howard Park as a gathering space for all residents and create a safe space where children of all abilities can play, connect, and thrive.

“Our goal is to create amenities that make every member of our community feel safe, welcomed, and valued,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “By investing in inclusive and accessible playgrounds, we’re making it possible for children of all abilities to enjoy our parks and build meaningful connections.”

The new playground is scheduled for construction this year.
