The 2025 Canadian Federal Election is finally here.
While many Canadians have already voted via advance polling and special ballots, a majority of Canadians will cast their ballots today (April 28).
For those who intend to exercise their right to vote today, there are some things to keep in mind:
How to vote
Before casting a vote, you must be registered.
Luckily, you can register with Elections Canada on election day.
In order to do so, you'll have to bring an accepted form of ID to your polling station.
If you've received a voter information card, bring it with you to vote, along with a piece of I.D.
Where to vote
Voters can only vote at their assigned polling station.
If you've received a voter information card in the mail, it will include the location of your polling station. Otherwise, you can check online.
When to vote
Polling stations are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Elections Canada has released information on the times of day that tend to be busier.
Voting lines tend to be longest in the early morning and after 4 p.m.
Polling stations are typically a little less busy between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The period of lowest traffic is usually between noon and 4 p.m.
