On Friday, May 2, The Canadian Press reported that the Conservative Party winner of the riding, Damien Kurek, had announced his intention to step aside to allow Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to run in a byelection in the Battle River—Crowfoot riding.
As of 10:13 p.m., Conservative candidate Damien Kurek was leading the Battle River - Crowfoot riding with 25,211 votes (81.4 per cent) and 145 of 278 of the polling stations reporting. It is projected that Kurek will win the riding.
Polls closed at 7:30 p.m., and results will be updated throughout the evening and in the morning.
A little before 8:30 (MST), The Canadian Press decision desk projects that the Liberal Party of Canada under Mark Carney will form the next government.
"Whether that's a minority or majority government is still to be seen," the Canadian press noted.
