Summer sun and warm temperatures are on the way for the weekend.

A shift to southerly winds and an incoming high-pressure system is going to signal a turnaround in temperatures heading into the weekend. A splash of summer is on the way with the potential for a 30-degree Saturday.

The week begins to warm up on Tuesday.

“We’re starting with a bit of a cool day today, but we begin to see the warmup tomorrow and into Wednesday,” says Stephen Berg, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. “You’ll see some much warmer air to the south, getting into the high teens for the mid-week and then into the upper 20s by Friday, and into the weekend maybe even touching on 30 for Saturday.”

It’s a welcome wave of warmth for a spring that’s held only tastes of spring weather. The soaring temperature should ensure much of the bush bound snow finds its way into this year’s run-off over the weekend.

The warm air will be ushered in with a bit of wind, Berg says.

“The area is going to be getting winds 40 km/hour gusting to 60 from the south, so that’s the indication of the rapid change in temperatures especially with southerly flows.”

The winds bring in high pressure that will tend to sweep out the majority of cloud cover with only some late day build up in play. There is little indication of precipitation for the later part of the week.

It’s time to break out the flip flops and the board shorts heading into the weekend as local teams start making the shift from hockey to baseball.
