It's news Council members for the Municipality of Rhineland were hoping for.
The Province is providing a $150,000 grant through its GRO program to help the Municipality address a potential inconvenience that could surface in the future. It involves proactively building up a low-level crossing on Road 6N near Altbergthal.

"That crossing is a bit troublesome and we're thinking it's a bit of a strategic one," said Reeve Don Wiebe, noting its close proximity to the aging bridge just over a mile west of Altona on PR 201.
"It's (the bridge) still there and I don't know exactly what shape it's in but, again, it was built years ago, and we know it's not in prime condition," explained Wiebe. "If it ever did fail, here is a good back-up plan. It (the built-up crossing) would be strategic if there ever had to be detour. If that wasn't the case, there's no other simple detour that could be arranged. It would be miles around."
The engineering study is estimated to cost around $300,000 and will determine the best option for building-up the crossing near Altbergthal - which could include installing culverts and a road surface or a bridge.
Municipality of Rhineland will cover the remaining half of the cost of the study which, according to Wiebe, will get underway as soon as possible.
