At yesterday's Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees recognized students who received 100 per cent on January diploma exams.
For this round of diploma exams, seven students received the highest mark.
The students from around RVS who got 100 per cent include :
- Bastian Benner - Bert Church High School - Bastian attributes his perfect score (on the Physics 30 diploma exam) to a combination of diploma prep and practice. He paid special attention to practicing the tricky questions that would appear on the exam. Currently in grade 11, Bastian has his sights set on attending the University of Calgary after graduating, where he hopes to study mechanical engineering.
- Christian Labonte - George McDougall High School - Christian got 100 per cent on the Chemistry 30 exam, and to prepare for it, Christian worked on practice tests and used class time effectively to understand the material. He studied every concept and applied it to questions on the exam. After graduating in the spring, he plans to study math and economics at the University of California, Los Angeles, known as UCLA, and hopes to one day work in finance. Christian was previously recognized for achieving 100 per cent on his Math 30-1 diploma.
- Noah Azzaria-Byrne - Cochrane High School - Noah credits his success on the Physics 30 diploma exam to his genuine interest in the subject material. He is still deciding whether he will attend the University of Calgary or Queen's University after graduation. Either way, he plans to study engineering with a goal of working at a tech startup. Noah hopes to meaningfully contribute to sustainability efforts and drive positive change.
- Pavneet Gill - Chestermere High School - Pavneet received 100 per cent on the Chemistry diploma and returned to the strategy that helped her before. She used a lot of cue cards when studying. She's also not afraid to ask questions about the material and work on practice problems. She plans to study nursing at the University of Calgary to become a nurse practitioner. Pavneet was previously recognized for achieving 100 per cent on the biology 30 diploma last June.
- Abigail Lewis - Springbank Community High School - Abigail received 100 per cent on the Biology 30 Exam. Abigail practiced for her exam by completing as many past diplomas as she could get her hands on. She also made sure she could explain concepts covered in class and make connections between them. She says being able to think critically was also important in achieving a perfect diploma score after graduating in the spring. Abigail plans on studying Biomedical Sciences at the University of Calgary so she can pursue a career in pediatric medicine.
- Katherina Ma - Springbank Community High School - In anticipation of her Biology 30 diploma, Katherina says she didn't simply memorize the content of the course material, but instead chose to ask questions to get a better understanding. She also credits her perfect score on the exam to having a great teacher in Mr. Matthews. After finishing high school this year, Katherina plans on studying neuroscience at the University of Calgary, and she hopes to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
- Kai Unger - Springbank Community High School - Kai gives a lot of thanks to Mr. Matthews, who, Kai said, broke down concepts clearly so students understood how the different parts of the course connect and build on each other. This, combined with Kai's ability to efficiently use class time and balance class work with his extracurricular activities, helped him attain 100 per cent on his Biology 30 diploma. After graduating this year, Kai plans to study finance at the University of Alberta. His goal is to be the CEO of a major business.
Greg Luterbach, Superintendent of Schools for RVS, congratulated the students and their families for their success.
"We recognize that success looks different for everyone. So, congratulations to the families, but congratulations, most importantly, to the students."
Diploma exams happen twice a year within RVS.
