A provincial bridge closure on Road 11 West, near Horndean, recently brought a group of area residents and landowners to the Municipality of Rhineland Council Chambers.
"(The bridge) needs a thorough inspection to see whether it can be repaired or has to be replaced. Those inspections take some time, and the delegation said that really inconvenienced them," explained Reeve Don Wiebe, noting the obstacle is located on a key north-south road in the area.
Because of this, the delegation requested the Municipality convert a portion of a nearby dirt road, Road 17 North, into gravel and create an all-weather road that would significantly cut down detour times.
"Council has agreed to do that, to help these people out," said Wiebe.
As soon as the Public Works team has time, they will lay down shale along two miles of the road, followed by gravel.
Wiebe estimates the work will cost between $120,000 and $150,000.
