The season got off to a good start for a lot of lacrosse players from Weyburn over the past week.
U13 Weyburn Security Thrashers
The Weyburn Security Thrashers opened up the 2025 campaign last Saturday, when they took on the Moose Jaw Mustangs in the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. The Thrashers would score early and often, going on to a 6-2 win. Judd Vennard had two goals in the win, as did Simon Wawro. The other markers came from Maclean Hillstead and Felix Wawro.
The second game of the day would be against the Young Equipment Thrashers. The Young’s Equipment squad would come out firing, with Landon Leroux scoring a hat trick en route to a 6-0 win. Cohen Baumgartner added two goals, with Jep Furgason also scoring.
The Weyburn Security Thrashers finished off their week on Thursday when they travelled to Regina for a game against Chaos Green. Things would be close for most of the game, with Felix Wawro’s fourth of the game standing as the game winner in a 5-4 decision. Savanah Turner scored the other goal for the Thrashers in the win.
The Weyburn Security Thrashers will be on the road this coming weekend. They travel to Swift Current for a game against the Rampage Saturday afternoon.
U13 Young’s Equipment Thrashers
Before the Young’s Equipment Thrashers shut out the Weyburn Security Thrashers last Saturday, they took on the Moose Jaw Mustangs as well at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. The Thrashers would get four goals in the third period to pull away for an 8-3 final. Cohen Baumgartner led the way, scoring five goals in the win. Jep Furgason added two himself, with Derk Pouteaux also finding the back of the net.
The next game of the week saw the Thrashers in Moose Jaw for a rematch against the Mustangs. Once again, they would come out firing and take an early lead. They held on to pick up a 6-2 win. Landon Leroux scored twice, as did Paislee Besharah. The other goals came from Owen Eberle and Jep Furgason.
Like the Weyburn Security Thrashers, the Young’s Equipment Thrashers are off to Swift Current this weekend, where they will play the Rampage.
U15 Young Fellows Thrashers
The Young Fellows Thrashers opened up their season at home last Saturday with two games at home against Regina Chaos Green. Regina would put up some strong defence and strong offence, taking both of the games. The first game was a 14-4 win for Regina. Cruz Carter would score two of the goals for Weyburn, with Julie Labrecque and Mci Patterson also tallying in the loss.
The other game would be an 11-6 win for Regina. Carter added three more goals, with Labrecque also scoring. Ryder Stepp and Hunter Moon tallied for the Thrashers as well.
There is just one game this week for the Young Fellows Thrashers. They will travel to Regina to take on Chaos Grey on Monday.
U17 Panther Drilling Thrashers
The U17 Thrashers opened up their season last Wednesday, when they went to Moose Jaw to take on the Mustangs. The Mustangs would come out on top in the first game of the season, winning 13-2. Andrew Charlton and Emmett Gill would score the goals for Weyburn in the loss.
On Saturday, the Thrashers entertained Regina Chaos Blue at Tom Zandee Sports Arena. The game would see Regina take a lead heading into the third period, and they held on to win 6-5. Andrew Charlton, Ella Schenher, Bode Pretty, Lucas Hannah, and Shiloh Mickler all scored for Weyburn in the loss.
The lone game in the upcoming week for the Thrashers will be Friday, when they go to Regina for a rematch against Chaos Blue.
