Kerrobert Composite School is going to be celebrating one of their own Rebels teams next Wednesday.
It was announced to start the week that the Rebels senior girls' basketball team was awarded the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA)/Sask Milk Sportsmanship Award. To celebrate, the school will be raising the banner during a special "Rebel Pride" celebration on Wednesday, May 7 in the gymnasium.
Earning a berth at HOOPLA in 2025, the SHSAA provincial basketball championship weekend, Rebels head coach Troy Snider shared how the award for his team came about.
"Each year at HOOPLA there are two sportsmanship banners awarded to all the girls' teams and boys' teams. 24 teams total, and we were lucky enough to be selected as one of those two (girls) teams."
Snider shared more on the school rally coming up next week in celebration.
"We are having a school assembly, 'Rebel Pride Day' next Wednesday." said Snider as the executive director of the SHSAA will be presenting the banner. "Then we will hang it in the rafters shortly thereafter."
Making it to HOOPLA, the team had a successful season. Snider said it's a young group that worked hard on the court for each other throughout the season. That determination helped them win their regional tournament to earn a place in HOOPLA.
"Was an outstanding experience for the girls. They learned so much." said Snider, as unfortunately his group lost in the bronze medal game. "I am excited to see what that experience does for them next season."
A proud Snider continued on about his team, the committed school sports coach saying this senior girls' team is a great example of how he wants his teams to operate.
"We talk a lot about values; we talk a lot about sportsmanship and being more than the game. I think these girls really understand what hard work and dedication can give them. And there are so many more ways to win, than just winning the game you are in.
"These girls are winning because they play for each other, they are accountable to each other, they are treating each other and their opponents with respect.
"And for that I am so proud."

Everyone is welcome to attend the banner raising at Kerrobert Composite School, taking place in the gym at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, May 7.
