A 19-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 21-year-old Jonas Robert Nedd Sutton, who was killed outside a downtown bar last month.

Calgary police said Drayden Leroy Nayneecassum-Toto was arrested on Saturday, May 3, outside of a downtown bar, and charged the next day. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Police said the charge followed "an exhaustive investigation, and in consultation with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service."

Officers were called to reports of a fight in a parking lot outside the Commonwealth Bar & Stage around 1:55 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. Police initially said one victim was declared dead at the scene, but later stated the man had died after being transported to hospital. Another victim was taken to hospital in stable condition, and a third later arrived at hospital separately.

Four individuals were taken into custody following foot chases in the downtown area. They were later released without charge. Police previously said the confrontation appeared to be alcohol-fuelled.

On April 30, police publicly identified the deceased as Jonas Robert Nedd, following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. His family later confirmed his full name as Jonas Robert Nedd Sutton.
