Karen Dommett, a sports administrator who previously worked with Olds College athletics, has been appointed executive director of the 2026 Grey Cup.

The 113th edition of the CFL championship is scheduled for Nov. 15, 2026, at McMahon Stadium.

Dommett most recently served as general manager of the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary and was manager of athlete services for the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

Her background includes work with the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, the Hockey Alberta Foundation, and athletics programs at both Olds College and the University of Saskatchewan.

"Karen brings with her a wealth of experience in major event planning, strategic leadership and community engagement, and we're very excited that she will be spearheading planning for the 2026 Grey Cup," Calgary Stampeders president Jay McNeil said in a written statement.

"Her impressive track record includes delivering large-scale sporting and cultural events across Canada, and we're confident her vision and energy will make the 2026 Grey Cup an unforgettable celebration for our fans, our city and the entire CFL community."

Dommett said she sees the Grey Cup as a unifying moment for Canadians.

"I deeply believe that major sporting events have the power to reflect and influence the type of society we all deserve," she said in the release.

"There is no better event than the historic Grey Cup and no better city than Calgary to showcase, celebrate and invite all Canadians to come together for a shared and memorable experience."

She said she was honoured to work with McNeil and the Stampeders to create "lasting legacies" in Calgary through the 2026 Grey Cup.
