Gimli RCMP officers conducting a routine traffic stop in Riverton at 2 a.m. on April 6 discovered multiple violations, including unstamped cigarettes, open liquor, and suspected cocaine. A vehicle was pulled over for an obstructed licence plate, leading to the arrest of two individuals and a subsequent drug-related investigation.
"Inside the vehicle, officers observed open liquor and unstamped cigarettes in plain view," says Gimli RCMP. "Both occupants were taken into custody without incident."
Further searches uncovered a radar detector, a carton of unstamped cigarettes, score sheets, and a container holding small amounts of cocaine divided into individual packages.
"The driver, a 33-year-old woman from the Rural Municipality of Bifrost, faces charges for possessing a radar detector and cocaine intended for trafficking. She was released with a provincial offence notice and a pending court date."
The passenger, whose identity has not been disclosed, was released without charges.
Ongoing investigation
Gimli RCMP confirm the investigation remains active.
"Traffic stops often reveal broader criminal activity. We urge the public to report suspicious behaviour."
