The City of Airdrie has created its first memorial pet fence.
Located at Kings Heights Off-Leash Park, the fence allows Airdronians to honour their pet who has passed away.
Leanne Willard, the Parks Community Liaison with the City of Airdrie, shared why the city decided to put up this fence.
"Over the years, the parks department has received requests for pet memorialization, and our existing Memorial program does not offer this option for pets. So we just wanted to come up with something that might offer some comfort to people grieving the loss of a pet."
As of now, there is only one memorial fence in Airdrie, but more might be added in the future.
"It was just installed on Friday. So we are still waiting to see what kind of response we received from the community, but overall, I hope it's going to get some positive feedback."
Different items the city hopes residents will hang on the fence include (but are not limited to):
- Collar
- Leash
- Tags
"We were looking for something cost-effective. We brainstormed a little bit, and this was the option that we came up with."
She concluded by saying that if anybody has any feedback on the fence or if more should be added around the city, please let the parks department know.
