Downtown will again be filled with excitement this evening as Winnipeggers gather for another Winnipeg Whiteout Street party.
Another sold-out party tonight will see thousands of people fill the streets surrounding Canada Life Centre as they cheer on the Winnipeg Jets in game one of their second-round Stanley Cup playoff series.
To accommodate the party and associated set-up and take-down, southbound Donald Street between Portage Avenue and St. Mary Avenue will be closed Wednesday, May 7, at 9 a.m. until Thursday, May 8, at 7 a.m. It will again be closed on Friday, May 9, at 9 a.m. until Saturday, May 10, at 7 a.m.
In addition, eastbound and westbound Graham Avenue, between Hargrave Street and Smith Street, will be closed on Wednesday, May 7, from 9 a.m. until Thursday, May 8, at 7 a.m. It will again be closed on Friday, May 9, at 9 a.m. until Saturday, May 10, at 7 a.m.
The city is encouraging motorists to use alternate routes, such as Main Street and Osborne Street, to get around the closures.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg Transit buses will be rerouted off of Graham Avenue between Kennedy Street and Smith Street starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, with regular service resuming on Thursday, May 8. They will again be rerouted on Friday, May 9, starting at 9 a.m., with regular service resuming on Saturday, May 10.
Buses will be unable to stop for passengers during the detour. Passengers who wish to catch buses affected by the reroutes are directed to stops at these intersections:
- Graham Avenue and Vaughn Street
- Graham Avenue and Fort Street
The Millennium Library will also close early on Wednesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.
