A Grunthal man is facing impaired driving and speeding charges after an RCMP traffic stop last month uncovered multiple alleged offences, including driving with a suspended licence and a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.

According to Mounties, an officer patrolling Highway 1 near Portage la Prairie on April 29, 2025, clocked a vehicle speeding shortly after 2:20 p.m.

During the stop, police discovered the 43-year-old Grunthal man’s licence had been suspended. Officers also reported signs of impairment and arrested him.

Breathalyzer tests conducted at the local RCMP detachment allegedly showed the driver’s blood alcohol concentration exceeded 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

The man now faces Criminal Code charges of impaired operation of a conveyance and operating a conveyance with a blood-alcohol level over 80 mg/100 ml.

RCMP also issued fines for speeding and driving while suspended.

Under provincial rules, the vehicle was immediately towed and will be impounded for 30 days. The accused was released and will appear in court at a later date.

Police reiterated reminders about the risks of impaired driving and consequences under Manitoba’s traffic laws.
