A woman has been fined $500 for operating a business without a valid licence at an Airdrie facility. A second charge under Alberta’s Animal Protection Act, laid during the same investigation, has been stayed.

According to the Better Business Bureau, Trina Ann Demeria is listed as the owner of Dog E Daycare, a business operating at 69 East Lake Crescent N.E. Multiple dogs were seized from the facility in December 2023 during an enforcement operation that also involved the EJ Rescue Foundation.

Court records show Demeria was charged with two offences tied to an offence date of December 5, 2023. That same day, officers from the Alberta SPCA, Airdrie Municipal Enforcement, and RCMP attended the East Lake Crescent facility.

According to previous DiscoverAirdrie reporting, RCMP confirmed the address where the seizures took place as EJ Rescue Foundation – 69 East Lake Crescent N.E. (Unit 2). The Alberta SPCA did not identify the business by name.

Demeria was charged under Section 2(1) of Alberta’s Animal Protection Act, which states that a person must not cause or permit an animal to be or to continue to be in distress. That charge was stayed on April 29, 2025. She was also charged under Airdrie’s Business Licence Bylaw B-52/2005 for operating without a valid licence and was fined $500 on May 5, with payment due May 30.

As previously reported by DiscoverAirdrie in December 2023, Airdrie Municipal Enforcement confirmed that both charges were laid in relation to an investigation involving EJ Rescue Foundation. One charge fell under the city’s Business Licence Bylaw, while the other pertained to the provincial Animal Protection Act.

A second visit to the property on December 12 resulted in additional animals being removed. In total, 44 dogs were seized over the two visits.

At the time of the seizures, previous DiscoverAirdrie reporting noted that authorities had not released specific information about the condition of the animals. Under Alberta law, “distress” is defined as an animal that is:

  • deprived of adequate shelter, ventilation, space, food, water or veterinary care;

  • not protected from injurious heat or cold;

  • injured, sick, in pain or suffering;

  • or abused or subjected to undue hardship, privation or neglect.

A Google listing for EJ Rescue Foundation states it is “located in Dog E Daycare,” indicating the two entities shared the East Lake Crescent facility.

Court documents note that there are no current or pending cases involving Demeria related to animal welfare, bylaw infractions, or business licensing.
