The Regina Thunder are starting to get ready for the coming season with training camps and bringing in new players.
One of those new players is Kingston Usher, of the Peacock Collegiate Tornados. Throughout his graduating season, Usher played on both sides of the ball at multiple positions.
"I was initially a receiver, but then our running back on injured, they put me at running back. I ended up leading the league in receiving yards from the running back spot and it was just really memorable season," saidĀ Kingston Usher.
When Usher joins the Thunder, it will be as a defensive back. He hopes to learn all he can in his first season while getting on the field whenever he can
"I expect to have that practice roster spot, but obviously I want some playing time. Like a goal would be to play a full quarter. Honestly, I feel like that's a good one," stated Usher.
The soon to be Tornado alumni was looking toward the University of Regina Rams to continue playing the sport he loves. After no response from the Rams, Usher got a private message from Thunder Head Coach, Scott MacAulay to come try out for the team back in April.
"He just said, 'we want to see what you look like in maroon and white,' so I went out to see what this is like, and I fell in love with it."
Canadian Junior Football League signing day is June 1st, and that's when Usher will officially become a part of the Regina Thunder. He will also be attending the U of R to become a chiropractor while chasing his football dreams.
