Rocky View County has updated its previously issued Fire Advisory to a Fire Ban for all of Rocky View County, effective immediately, due to changing conditions.
"The ban will remain in effect as long as high-risk conditions remain," officials noted in a Wednesday afternoon social media post.
During a Fire Ban, all burning and fireworks permits are suspended, and burning is banned with the following exceptions:
• Indoor household fireplaces
• Camp stoves (properly attended)
• Barbecues (charcoal briquettes, propane, or natural gas)
• Wood pellet grills
• Propane/natural gas fire pit
• Oil well flaring (registration required -- call 403-264-1022)
"Any person who ignites, fuels, supervises, maintains or permits an outdoor fire within the municipal boundaries of Rocky View County during a fire ban can be fined $1,000. Should the fire get out of control and emergency fire response is required, the person responsible for the fire can be charged the full firefighting costs," officials warned on the RVC website.
The City of Airdrie remains under a fire advisory as of Wednesday.
"The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or until additional measures are deemed necessary," Airdrie city officials added last week when the advisory was put into effect.
Other neighbouring counties and regions are also subject to various restrictions or bans. Portions of the Calgary Forest area are under a fire advisory as of Tuesday, while Mountain View County is under a fire restriction.
Airdrie city officials have also reminded residents that there is a difference between provincial and municipal fire bans and advisories.
"Provincial fire bans and advisories apply to all Crown Land in Alberta. The City of Airdrie's bans and advisories apply to all lands within the Airdrie city limits. This is because individual municipalities regulate their own fire status."
